Synopsis

AUTUMN (SONBAHAR) was nominated for Discovery of the Year in Europe in 2008 and won many awards in festivals accross the world. It is a psychological drama about Yusuf, who was sentenced as a young student due to his anti-goverment involvement and served 10 years in jail until he was released because of health reasons.

He returns to his village in the Black Sea region, where he is welcomed only by his sick mother as his father has passed away and his older sister got married and moved away.

As most of the young people left the remote village and moved out to cities, the only person Yusuf can connect with is his childhood friend Mikail until he meets Eka, a beautiful, young Georgian prostitute and falls for her. For Yusuf this love becomes a final desperate attempt to grasp life and elude loneliness. For Eka, Yusuf seems like a man from a faraway world and time, like a character from a Russian novel.

With its beautiful and award-winning cinematography and soundtrack, AUTUMN (SONBAHAR) documents and criticizes the era of post nineties in Turkey and socialism as a shattered dream, exposing the irony and the reality.
